A Record-Breaking Day of Joy, Confidence, and Community

On Saturday, November 8, we experienced everything that makes Girls on the Run so magical. With hearts full of excitement and cool but beautiful weather for running, nearly 2,400 participants came together for our Fall 2025 5K presented by SSM Health in Waunakee.

The field included 1,060 incredible kids from 72 teams across South Central Wisconsin, supported by 317 dedicated coaches and more than 180 volunteers who made the day shine. Whether it was their very first 5K or one of many, every participant crossed the finish line beaming with pride, surrounded by cheers from teammates, family, and friends.

The energy was unstoppable. Bucky Badger joined in the celebration, decked out in his spirited red and white and sent each participant off with a starting line high-five (or was it a high-four?!). Thanks to NBC15, the joy and inspiration of the morning were captured in this short video clip featuring 25-season veteran coach Jessie-Rae.

Behind every finish-line smile were hundreds of volunteers who made the event possible. From course marshals and water stations to cheer squads and set-up crews, their commitment created a safe, seamless, and joy-filled experience for every participant.

Twenty years ago, Girls on the Run of South Central Wisconsin started with just 13 participants. Today, we’ve grown into a powerful movement helping more than a thousand kids each season discover their limitless potential through fun, inclusive, and empowering programs. This growth is possible because of you—our volunteers, families, partners, and supporters—who believe in the power of every girl.

As we celebrate this milestone fall season, we’re already looking ahead to spring! Registration for the Spring Girls on the Run program opens Friday, February 27, and we’ll return for another unforgettable 5K celebration on Saturday, May 30 in Verona.

Thank you for being part of this record-breaking day and for helping our community’s girls keep running toward their dreams with joy, confidence, and courage.
